Karma Army seeks recruits to combat ski, snowboard and bike theft, and spread the message of “bad karma to thieves.”

Karma Alerts™ help track down stolen gear through the power of

community, technology and social media.

Farmington, CT, October 20, 2009 - Have you ever had your skis or snowboard stolen? Mountain bike or road bike? How about a motorcycle or ATV?

Fear not fellow skiers, boarders and riders. The Karma Army is now reporting for duty…

KarmaArmy.com (http://www.karmaarmy.com) is a community of active sports enthusiasts, who are passionate about skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking, motocross, kayaking, and other action sports where their gear is their connection to the outdoors.

On the site, members can create a free profile to register all of the pertinent information for their recreational gear – serial numbers, descriptions, photos and location. In the event an item is stolen, a “Karma Alert” notifies other members in the same geographical area through email and SMS alerts, what the item is, what it looks like and where it was last seen. Every Karma Alert is instantly broadcast to local law enforcement, campus security, ski area security, local retailers and repair shops via RSS feeds and social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter, creating a virtual search party for the stolen gear. In addition, in the event of a theft, all of the necessary information to file a police report or insurance claim is easily accessible.

“Our daily battle against those whose job it is to steal and pilfer from us, marches on,” says founder Senan Gorman, AKA “General Karma.” “Police try their best to investigate & recover, but often there are bigger fish to fry than recovering a stolen bike or snowboard. But to us, it's a different story. We're bikers, cyclists, skiers, snowboarders, park rats, groms, sk8rs, jibbers, and our gear is mission critical to what we do. And to all bike, ski and board thieves out there, be forewarned: BAD KARMA will catch up to you.”

KarmaArmy.com is a community for anyone who wants to help stop gear theft by sharing experiences, learning from other riders about resorts and facilities who are helping to combat gear theft, and offering tips and advice on how to protect gear from the bad guys. The site features additional content and videos on theft prevention and some “good karma” opportunities to give back to those in need.

Enlist in the Karma Army today and join the mission to put gear thieves out of business.
